Explosive Technician Guide

Tags:

A guide for those like me who favor the art of grenades. Most people might criticize one for using these “nades” (slang for grenade) but using grenade in any games take careful accuracy and knowledge of basic physics. Just try not to pull a suicide every time (I’m guilty of that on many accidental occasions ^^”)

Being a main grenade thrower means you might die a lot, but you get the satisfaction of multiple kills per death. Now I’ll explain some basics.

1. Never throw your grenade straight at a distance enemy, some what obvious, but your ‘nade will never reach the enemy this way.

2. Know how far you can throw your grenade before it’ll explode midair, it’s around 5 seconds (I’ll have to time it later)

3. Watch for low ceilings, high boxes, walls, and fellow teammates, all these are common ways for the grenade to come back at your face, or even blow up in your face (hitting any player character will auto explode the grenades on contact, that includes hitting your teammate, as hitting a teammate won’t kill them but the explosion can kill yourself)

4. Know your basic physics so you can get arc angle, this way you can lob your grenade into the air and have it land to take out your enemy/ies.

5. When under fire, as a last resort quickly locate the enemy and throw your grenade, you’ll get the hang of throwing it far enough to land the last blow, even if you’re dead, an active grenade can kill.

6. Jumping can increase distance of grenades, line up a shot, jump and throw. Make sure it won’t explode midair though. (Thank you, Silmeria)

7. Use columns, walls, and boxes have your ‘nade bounce against and hit the enemy. Most easily done in maps like Paienlab and parts of Station.

8. being above the enemy on a ramp is an easy way to have your grenade bounce down to the enemy. (Now mostly seen in Wolf City where most often both teams meet and fire)

9. The ninth, and very important basic tip. Many people just lob their grenade into a small room or path. Do not to this! It’s a waste when you can ensure a kill with your ONE starting grenade.

Important: As an Explosive Technician you are limited, as everyone else is, to one grenade. You must (obviously) select the frag grenade (Mk-5G) as your special weapon. After you use it, your only option is to loot every pack you can find. Don’t feel afraid to loot in a somewhat open area, remember when you die you get your grenade back, and this is your main weapon after all. Wolf Team is currently set up (hoping it stays) where even if you loot a smoke grenade, you’ll have a frag grenade in your inventory, so that no matter what you loot you can use it to increase your kill count.

The many satisfactions from using grenades:

  • Probably the most satisfactory thing about grenades is seeing the multiple kill count from one grenade
  • Being able to finish off the enemy even after you’re dead, even a couple seconds after you’re dead
  • Being able to loot a pack and “thanking” the enemy for their support, or having your ally have it for you in the case they’ve been killed.

There is a lot needed to be an effective Explosive Technician. Figure out your own style and remember not to waste your grenade.

An All-Rounder Guide

This post is about my experience playing in WolfTeam, starting from 25th Jan 2008. Still consider a relatively newbie to some. But my friends had said I been progressing fast.

1st of all, I needed to state that I had played Counterstrike before and currently playing Hellgate:London as well. Thus getting used to the controls is not much a problem for me. What’s I’m posting now may had been posted by someone before. If you knew what’s you are supposed to do during the game to get kills, I’m afraid this post is not for you.

Beginner Level

1) Go to the inventory and and set your preferred weapons accordingly. Do not buy any weapons. (You probably doesn’t have any money to buy xp)

2) When you start playing, run around, get used to the map you are playing. And just blast your guns away when u located an enemy. You might die a lot before getting your 1st kill but that’s alright. Take it cool and it’s your learning point.

3) Now try to get used to changing from man to wolf and wolf to man at will. This is a bit hard for all initially. Howevery, once you had mastered it, you be ready to rock and roll. One tip for mastering this skill is lots and lots of PRACTICES! I’m afraid there’s no shortcuts to it.

4) Be a roamer, NOT camper! This is to get you to see how yout teammates move around and get their kills. Copy their moves and as well as your enemies. I know it’s easy to hide in a corner throughout the whole game and get some easy kills when your enemy comes along without noticing you but you won’t improve at all. It’s also a matter of time that your enemies knew about your favourite hide-out.

5) Take it easy even when you team are on a losing side. After all, it’s just a game. No need to curse and swear every time you buy an expensive weapon and got killed before you can even fire a bullet. It had happened to me plenty of times before and it will happen again. Remember, your life is not all about this game.

6) If you saw a hacker in the enemy team, just quit. Calling him names and staying on the game served no purpose. It will made him happier when he knew that you are losing ur temper because he had hacked the game. However, if the hacker is your teammate, stay on, get your kills and win the game.

7) Save your money and forget about getting any upgrades. Even that better sniper gun (I-115T) can wait. For more money, play wolf-base or bomb planting games.

Expert Level

1) Learn to used the wolf camera for more ’spy views’.

2) Try out different weapons to find which one suits you best.

3) Try out different tactics. Roamer, camper or sniper. Dun let ur enemies know what type of player you are. Let them guess.

4) If you see your teammates are turning around and running back suddenly, follow them. It might be due to a grenade or lots of enemies around the corner. If you see a grenade coming towards you, change to wolf and turn around fast.

5) Do not dish out ur grenades unneccessary. Keep them till you are able to locate ur enemies. And do learn to throw the grenades far as well as close.

6) Looting is another easy way to die. Loot only when neccessary and not every time you saw someone die in front of you. And don’t take too much time on looting. If it lag badly, forget about lootings. If you run out of bullets, rush in wolf form.

7) When in melee fire, don’t stand still or squat down unless you are using AK47. Move left and right and control ur mouse.

8a) If an enemy wolf appear suddenly and chasing you, turn around 180 degrees, whipped out your grenade and throw it in a short distance on the floor ot the wall in front of you. Then run toward it. If you timed it correctly, the grenade will kill you as well as the enemy wolf. This really needed lots of practises and should only be used when your HP are low. If not, you should change to a wolf as well and combat it out with your enemy. Read on the next tip to see how to do it.

8b) If an enemy wolf appear suddenly and chasing you, change to wolf fast, facing the enemy the enemy at same time, jump backward and right click on your mouse to wolf-rush him to death. I personally love to use this way to kill onrushing wolfs. BTW, this is what i learnt after playing against a pro-sniper whom I had forgot his name. xp

9) Don’t stay in the same spot for too long even if you like to camp all the time. Change spots everytime you kill one or two enemies from your camping spot.

10 Radio informations or instructions to your teammates is good. Keep using them. They helped a lot. And keep reading the informations given by ur dead comrades. Example, “base roof” or “base left”. This give you a rough idea where the enemy are approching from.

Pro Level

1) Get a good network connection, superb graphic card, tons of RAMs, a solid processor and a great mouse and keyboard.

2) If you reach high rankings like, Second Lieutenant, without hacking.

3) If you are able to execute what I had stated in the Beginner Level and Expert Level, consider yourself a Pro.

I also like to thank all you guys who had played with me. You are all my teachers in this games.

This is just a game. Don’t be too serious about it!
