A guide for those like me who favor the art of grenades. Most people might criticize one for using these “nades” (slang for grenade) but using grenade in any games take careful accuracy and knowledge of basic physics. Just try not to pull a suicide every time (I’m guilty of that on many accidental occasions ^^”)
Being a main grenade thrower means you might die a lot, but you get the satisfaction of multiple kills per death. Now I’ll explain some basics.
1. Never throw your grenade straight at a distance enemy, some what obvious, but your ‘nade will never reach the enemy this way.
2. Know how far you can throw your grenade before it’ll explode midair, it’s around 5 seconds (I’ll have to time it later)
3. Watch for low ceilings, high boxes, walls, and fellow teammates, all these are common ways for the grenade to come back at your face, or even blow up in your face (hitting any player character will auto explode the grenades on contact, that includes hitting your teammate, as hitting a teammate won’t kill them but the explosion can kill yourself)
4. Know your basic physics so you can get arc angle, this way you can lob your grenade into the air and have it land to take out your enemy/ies.
5. When under fire, as a last resort quickly locate the enemy and throw your grenade, you’ll get the hang of throwing it far enough to land the last blow, even if you’re dead, an active grenade can kill.
6. Jumping can increase distance of grenades, line up a shot, jump and throw. Make sure it won’t explode midair though. (Thank you, Silmeria)
7. Use columns, walls, and boxes have your ‘nade bounce against and hit the enemy. Most easily done in maps like Paienlab and parts of Station.
8. being above the enemy on a ramp is an easy way to have your grenade bounce down to the enemy. (Now mostly seen in Wolf City where most often both teams meet and fire)
9. The ninth, and very important basic tip. Many people just lob their grenade into a small room or path. Do not to this! It’s a waste when you can ensure a kill with your ONE starting grenade.
Important: As an Explosive Technician you are limited, as everyone else is, to one grenade. You must (obviously) select the frag grenade (Mk-5G) as your special weapon. After you use it, your only option is to loot every pack you can find. Don’t feel afraid to loot in a somewhat open area, remember when you die you get your grenade back, and this is your main weapon after all. Wolf Team is currently set up (hoping it stays) where even if you loot a smoke grenade, you’ll have a frag grenade in your inventory, so that no matter what you loot you can use it to increase your kill count.
The many satisfactions from using grenades:
- Probably the most satisfactory thing about grenades is seeing the multiple kill count from one grenade
- Being able to finish off the enemy even after you’re dead, even a couple seconds after you’re dead
- Being able to loot a pack and “thanking” the enemy for their support, or having your ally have it for you in the case they’ve been killed.
There is a lot needed to be an effective Explosive Technician. Figure out your own style and remember not to waste your grenade.
